Julia Fox defends her ‘abhorrent’ Halloween costume after intense backlash

Julia Fox has sparked intense backlash after dressing in the pink suit Jackie Kennedy Onassis wore on the day her husband, President John F Kennedy, was assassinated – complete with blood splatter.
She was photographed as the former First Lady in a powder pink tweed suit, matching pillbox hat and white gloves just like the late fashion icon’s, which included the blood stains that were left on it after she survived the assassination of her husband in an open-top car in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963.
Kennedy Onassis is famously remembered for refusing to change out of the suit for Vice President Lyndon B Johnson’s swearing-in ceremony on Air Force One, reportedly declaring: ‘No, let them see what they’ve done to Jack.’
The Uncut Gems actress, who was attending the Cursed Amulet Halloween party presented by Julio Torres on Thursday night in New York City, was branded ‘disgusting’, ‘tasteless and tacky’, ‘problematic’ and ‘a disrespectful clown show’.
‘I’m sorry but this is one of the most unclassiest [sic] and abhorrent things I’ve ever seen,’ said Yolanda on X, while Jeremy added: ‘Completely tone deaf, ignorant & lacks compassion.’
‘Girl you really couldn’t stop at just being Jackie Kennedy?’, asked @lauryn_kill.

The Kennedys’ grandson Jack Schlossberg, 32 – son of their daughter Caroline, 67 – also had his say, writing on X: ‘Julia Fox glorifying political violence is disgusting, desperate and dangerous. I’m sure her late grandmother would agree.’
But now the 35-year-old – who is none for ruffling feathers with outlandish looks – has put out a comment, defending her choice for Halloween as ‘not a costume, but a statement’.
‘When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her blood-stained clothes, saying, “I want them to see what they’ve done,”’ wrote Fox on Instagram, next to photographs of herself in the costume. ‘The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation.
‘Her decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery. It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponising image and grace to expose brutality.
‘It’s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O.’

‘Okay the caption saved it for me – not everyone has this type of mindset,’ Lailah Licón responded in the comments section, while Emma Norton wrote: ‘An absolutely SHOW STOPPING LOOK. From the messaging to the look itself… absolute perfection.’
‘Julia does it again!!!’ chimed in heiress and influencer Hannah Bronfman.
Not everyone was convinced though, with Paula Scarlet responding: ‘Idk I still think it’s problematic like ????’
‘An atrocious and self-serving excuse, dear me,’ wrote Tim Brannigan.
Elsewhere getting into the Halloween spirit was Demi Lovato, whose costume offered deep fan service as she opted to dress as ‘Poot’, leaving her excited followers ‘howling’.

For those not in the know, Poot Lovato is a fictional twin sister of Demi’s, who has been an entertaining meme online for several years, with her origin dated to Tumblr in 2015 after a fan edited an over-exposed picture of Demi and created a backstory.
‘Happy halloween and happy one week of intd!!! been so locked in this era thought i’d let pootvato out,’ Demi – who also uses they/them pronouns – captioned her Instagram post, which included video clips and posed photos of her with a combover and hanging around in the basement, as per internet lore.
‘Omg obsessed with you,’ commented Charli XCX, while Katy Perry wrote: ‘You take the crown my dear. Also, my fav song is Let You Go.’
As always, Heidi Klum also went the extra mile and transformed into a jaw-dropping creature.

In recent years the supermodel has dressed up as E.T., a giant worm, Betty Boop, Fiona from Shrek and even herself at the age of 95.
However this time around she worked with prosthetic makeup designer Mike Marino, and a team of 34 others, to turn into the mythological creature Medusa.
Before unveiling her outfit, Heidi teased it was going to be ‘very ugly’.
‘HAPPY HEIDIWEEN 🐍Don’t stare too long or you’ll turn to stone,’ she posted on Instagram when revealing her outfit.
When hitting the red carpet, her costume also included several moving snakes protruding from her intricate headpiece.
Heidi was also accompanied at her annual Halloween party by her husband Tom Kaulitz, 36, who was dressed up as one of Perseus’ friends, who gets turned into stone by locking eyes with Medusa.

Meanwhile Lily Allen continued to capitalise on the interest in her recently released album West End Girl and the drama surrounding her marriage break-down with David Harbour.
After revealing on the album he had an affair with a woman she called Madeline, the singer dressed up as the children’s book character for Halloween.
Channelling the orphaned schoolgirl, Lily wore a blue, collard pea coat, with a red neckerchief, straw hat, Mary Jane shoes and bright orange wig.
Another singer who absolutely wowed in the Halloween costume skates was Jade Thirlwall, who went all in on prosthetics to be transformed into Greta the Gremlin from Gremlins 2: The New Batch, complete with an iconic wedding look.

She was completely unrecognisable, covered in green scales and made to look like one of the film’s mischievous creatures – and even better, boyfriend, Rizzle Kicks star Jordan Stephens, was convinced into a fluffy brown and white Gizmo suit to play the other half of their amazing couple’s costume.
Jade also showed off a second Greta costume on social media, including a pink feather boa and matching leopard-print crop top and skirt.
While not nearly as extravagant, Kerry Katona – who is currently touring UK theatres with her pal Katie Price for An Evening With, was having a laugh in an orange body suit and fake moustache as The Lorax, and I’m A Celebrity’s Georgia Toffolo decided to channel Pamela Anderson in one of her film roles.
Toff, 31, recreated publicity shots for the infamous Barb Wire in a black corset, leggings and stiletto boots, while donning a blonde wig and making sure she had the Baywatch star’s arm tattoo in place as well.

Jonathan Ross put in his expected strong effort for the evening as well after being banished on The Celebrity Traitors – and revealing he is no longer putting on his famously lavish annual Halloween parties, namely because ‘they cost a fortune’.
He also previously explained that he hadn’t held one since 2019 out of consideration for his daughter, Betty Ross, who has fibromyalgia – a chronic condition that causes pain and fatigue.
‘I might do another one before I go,’ he added to host Ed Gamble on The Traitors: Uncloaked podcast this week.

Pictured in an elaborately decorated front garden to entertain his neighbours, the TV presenter wore his recognisable green velvet Traitors cloak which he paired with intricate demon-esque white face make-up and horns.
And in an example of a family being on theme, Alec and Hilaria Baldwin dressed up with the seven children they share together – Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, María Lucía, and Ilaria – as Care Bears for 2025 Halloween.
Former Dancing with the Stars contestant Hilaria also shared throwback pictures of their previous Halloween family costumes, including in 2023 when they all dressed as characters from Alec’s famous Tim Burton movie, Beetlejuice.
