Dax Shepard has shared that he offered to pay to have his 11-year-old daughter’s eggs frozen when she’s 18 after a conversation about becoming a mum.

The actor and comedian, 51, shares Delta, 11, and 12-year-old Lincoln with Nobody Wants This star wife Kristen Bell, 45.

‘Delty was saying how she can’t wait to have a baby,’ he revealed on an episode of his podcast, Armchair Expert, which dropped on January 5, adding: ‘She’s gonna really do it well.’

He also said that when his daughter first raised the topic, he made sure to be non-judgemental.

‘She’s saying she wants to have a baby, and I said, “When do you think you’ll have your first child? When you turn 18?” I want to be supportive of whatever.

‘I don’t want to plant any seeds that I’d be judgmental or whatever.’

Shepard then explained that his youngest daughter told him she didn’t want to become a parent then, and he guessed that she’d want to have a child later on, between the ages of 35 and 45.

That was when he revealed he’d offered to assist her, if she welcomed it, adding: ‘I said, “I think, If you want to, we’ll freeze your eggs when you’re 18. I’ll pay for you to get your eggs frozen so you don’t have to think about that.”’

After discussing with his co-host Monica Padman, who previously had her own eggs frozen, with them agreeing ‘the earlier the better’ for the egg retrieval process, he continued: ‘Look, acknowledging our luck and privilege, obviously, this isn’t an option for most people. But I think given where it’s, the trajectory, it would make the most sense.

‘I think they’re going to be wrestling with the same thing every woman is. You’re gonna want to do your career.’

But he also revealed that Delta felt his proposed age rage of becoming a mother was ‘too old’.

Shepard said: ‘Again, she’s 11 so that probably seems like 80. She’s thinking mid-20s.’

Fans online were rather taken aback by the talk, with many shocked they were already having it.

‘Maybe that conversation could’ve waited till she’s 18?’ asked Deja Marie on Instagram, while Angela Michaels agreed that her 12-year-old daughter ‘does not want her dad discussing her eggs at the moment lol’.

Michelle Marino admitted: ‘I’m a fan of his. But this is very strange. I would have been mortified if my dad said that to me.’

Others branded it ‘weird’ and ‘dystopian’ and Shepard ‘a walking red flag with a microphone’ while Stacey Kliegel chimed in: ‘Maybe let her experience having a period first.’

However, many were ready to praise Shepard for ‘thinking out of the box’ and about his daughter’s future.

‘Honestly, I wish my father gifted me this. It’s expensive,’ pointed out Tina as Caroline Lunny insisted ‘this is the best gift we can give our daughters’ and others suggested more people should be ‘encouraging’ this.

Shepard and Bell are known for being very open about their family and relationship – as well as somewhat unconventional – with the Frozen star recently revealing she ‘didn’t care’ if her husband slept with other women as ‘We’re monkeys, we’re both attracted to other people. We’re married – we’re not dead’.

Music icon Cher was also a guest at the start of 2026 on the podcast and rather brutally observed that Shepard ‘must have something that I don’t see’ to be married to her former co-star Bell.

She also called Bell ‘the better half’ in their partnership, with the couple engaged while the two women were shooting 2010 musical movie Burlesque together.
